　　(1) The Aim of Learning English　　Why do we learn English? Different people may have different answers. Some students study English mainly for passing examinations. And some study English for other purposes ， such as studying abroad ， communicating with foreigners. For English teachers, some make use of class time to give guidance for the coming CET Band 4 or Band 6 by doing simulated examination papers. On the other hand ， some people take English as a tool of communication. They believe that the purpose of learning English is to contact with the foreign world ， to have academic exchanges with foreign colleagues ， and to gain the latest information of science and technology. They think it's very harmful for the students to spare no effort to do all kinds of model tests because to some extent, it produces people with good marks but poor abilities.　　(2) The Importance of English　　English is not the most widely spoken language in the world in terms of the number of native speakers. There are much more native Chinese speakers than native English speakers. But Chinese is less spoken outside Chinese communities. English is the most widespread language in the world. The importance of English is not just in how many people speak it, but in what it is used for. English is the major language of news and information in the world. It is the language of business and government. It is the language of international communication.　　……
