本书充分证明了实施批判阅读测试是必要的也是可行性的。数据分析结果从多个角度证明批判阅读测试有很好的效度，其测试批判阅读能力的目的能够实现。本书中的研究结果表明批判阅读能力分成四个层次也是合理的，这种分类有理论依据和实证支持；阅读材料本身的确有批判阅读的要求，但不同的文体侧重不同层次的批判阅读能力；写回应短文和写概要被看作具有同等效力，都能够最有效地测出批判阅读能力，但对测试试卷而言，搭配题型是最合适的题型；批判阅读测试的受试人群不应只局限在高年级英语专业学生，任何有批判阅读知识和经历的高水平英语学习者都可以参加。此外，访谈数据表明批判阅读测试将对英语阅读教与学产生积极的反拨作用。
