(Tobe bilingual,One must be bicultural.)

Americans themselves are certainly guilty of havingstereotypes about other cultures. We hear such opinions as"French people are romantic", "Italians are passionate","Germans are logical and orderly", "Chinese are inscrutableand mysterious", etc. These characterisations —— whetherpositive or negative —— fall into the category of simplisticstereotypes. What about stereotypes about Americans? Whatgeneralisations do other cultures have about the typicalAmerican? Unfortunately, many of the stereotypes aboutAmericans fit into a sort of Ugly American stereotype. For example, in the book Managing Cultural Differences, intercultural experts Philip R. Harris and Robert T. Moranlist some opinions that Arab businessmen hold regardingtheir dealings with Westerners.
