出版时间:2014-1  出版社:译林出版社  作者:鲁思·本尼迪克特 Ruth Benedict

内容概要

The Chrysanthemum and the Sword is an influential 1946 study of Japan. It was written at the invitation of the U.S. Office of War Information, in order to understand and predict the behavior of the Japanese in World War II by reference to a series of contradictions in traditional culture. The book was influential in shaping American ideas about Japanese culture during the occupation of Japan, and popularized the distinction between guilt cultures and shame cultures.

作者简介

Ruth Benedict (1887 –1948) was an American anthropologist and folklorist.
She can be viewed as a transitional figure in her field, redirecting both anthropology and folklore away from the limited confines of culture-trait diffusion studies and towards theories of performance as integral to the interpretation of culture. She studied the relationships between personality, art, language and culture, insisting that no trait existed in isolation or self-sufficiency, a theory which she championed in her 1934 Patterns of Culture.
