内容概要

　　阿瑟.柯南道尔是英国杰出的侦探小说家，因成功地塑造了一个才华横溢的侦探形象—歇洛克.福尔摩斯而被后人称为“侦探小说之父”。柯南道尔一共写了60个关于福尔摩斯的故事，56个短篇和4个中篇小说。福尔摩斯自称是一名“咨询侦探”，即其他私人侦探或官方侦探遇到困难时常常向他求救，他善于通过观察与演绎法来解决问题。华生医生是他多年的室友，办案时的得力助手，他的传记作家以及一生的好朋友。《福尔摩斯探案全集》中的60个故事主要发生在1878年到1907年间，
最晚的一个故事以1914年为背景。其中两个故事以福尔摩斯的第一人称口吻写成，还有2个以第三人称写成，其余都是华生的叙述。《福尔摩斯探案全集》是开辟了侦探小说历史“黄金时代”的不朽经典，出版一百多年来被译成多种文字，风靡全世界。就连福尔摩斯的办公地点—伦敦贝克街221号B（B代表法语中的bis，表示公寓中有两人居住）也成了旅游景点。在此书问世100年后，英国皇室决定授予小说同名主人公大侦探福尔摩斯以爵士爵位。英皇授爵的条件是非常苛刻而严肃的，而此次却破天荒授给一个书中的虚构人物。英国著名小说家毛姆曾说：“和柯南道尔所写的《福尔摩斯探案全集》相比，没有任何侦探小说曾享有那么大的声誉。”
