　　Tourism is booming in China. But the supporting travel insurance industry isn't sharing thegrowth. As the number of travelers increases, so does the number of accidents. During this year sMay Day Holiday, for example, 11 major accidents killed 19 people.and injured 23. No national sta-tistics （统计） are available on the popularity of travel insurance. According to a report, in Shang-hai, only 20 percent of group tour travelers bought insurance coverage and spent an average of 6yuan. The percentage is believed to be lower for independent travelers. The limited coverage bytravel insurance is partly to blame for this low figure. Most travel insurance plans cover only injuriesand rnedical expenses caused by accidents. Travel mishaps like lost luggage and cancelled trips arenot covered. Travel insurance also doesn't cover activities like diving, skiing and parachuting （跳伞）. These activities are more dangerous and need insurance more than everyday activities.　　Travel, insurance is more widely used in western countries. For example, in the UK, more than90 percent 9f holiday makers take out insurance. Travelers, aged 18 to 25, are the least likely totake out travel insurance. But two-thirds still buy it when they go abroad. Western travel insuranceusually covers three types of accidents. The first is trip cancellation due to illness or injury. Insurancepolicies specially designed for Students even include unexpected exams as a reason for trip cancella-tion. The second part,is similar to travel insurance in China, covering medical and accident costs.　　……
