插图：It is now mid-afternoon, and Kathy's sandwiches are still in their wrapper. The afternoon consultations are due to start, and two clients are already in the waiting room. John will see them.Kathy goes into the second consulting room where another patient is already waiting. This is a black cat called Grey who has lost most of the hair down his back.Kathy questions the owner about the animal's history. In many such cases, the cause of the hair loss is a flea allergy, but the owner has taken the right preventative measures for Grey,so there must be another cause.Kathy suspects that Grey may be allergic to certain types of food. A procedure called a skin biopsy  will help to determine the cause of the problem. This involves taking a small sample of skin, which is then sent to a laboratory for microscopic examination. The owner agrees to the operation, and Grey is booked in for an anaesthetic and skin biopsy the next day.
