作者简介

　　北京外国语大学名师团队注释：彭萍、沈忆文、卢欣、王向向、翟康、周炜、胡婷婷、胡钰翎、马祖琼，这些老师她们都是北外的骨干教师，有着极其丰富教学经验，长期从事英语精读、泛读（其中很重要的一部分就是指导学生阅读英语名著）、文学、翻译、语言学等教学和研究工作。可以说，团队的每个成员都是读着这些著作以及更多英语名著的过来人，而且不少还都在继续研读这些经典著作。

　　My father had a small estateestate in Nottinghamshire: I was the third of five sons. He sent me to Emanuel College in Cambridge at fourteen years old, where I resided three years, and applied myself close to my studies; but the charge of maintaining me, although I had a very scanty allowance, being too great for a narrow fortune, I was bound apprentice to Mr. James Bates, an eminent surgeon in London, with whom I continued four years. My father now and then sending me small sums of money, I laid them out in learning navigation and other parts of the mathematics, useful to those who intend to travel, as I always believed it would be, some time or other, my fortune to do. When I left Mr. Bates, I went down to my father；where, by the assistance of him and my uncle John, and some other relations, I got forty pounds, and a promise of thirty pounds a year to maintain me at Leyden: there I studied physic two years and seven months, knowing it would be useful in long voyages.　　Soon after my return from Leyden, I was recommended by my good master, Mr. Bates, to be surgeon to the Swallow, Captain Abraham Pannel, commander；with whom I continued three years and a half, making a voyage or two into the Levant, and some other parts. When I came back I resolved to settle in London; to which Mr. Bates, my master, encouraged me, and by him I was recommended to several patients. I took part of a small house in the Old Jewry; and being advised to alter my condition, I married Mrs. Mary Burton, second daughter to Mr. Edmund Burton, hosier in Newgate-street, with whom I received four hundred pounds for a portion.　　……

•   一直非常喜欢这个出版社这一系列的英文原版小说，首先就是封面非常之简洁，纸质非常好，印象分就很高了，然后内容就不用说了，不仅有详细的注解，而且最喜欢的就是对于文章长难句的解释非常恰如其分，不仅可以作为英语学习者很好的阅读材料，也是文学爱好者的心头宝，非常喜欢！
•   这套书总算买齐了。加油学英语了，干什么都不如读书快乐。吼吼~本套书的编辑比起同类的书籍严谨的多，如果所有的书都能有这样的态度，对读者真是莫大的幸事。尤其喜欢书里的注释，只是这类注释单词一向没有音标，如果能改进这点，会更有价值。
