章节摘录
Most kinds of rose plants come from Asia. But roses are also native to other areas includingnorthwest Africa, Europe-and the United States. In 1986, Congress chose the rose as America's national flower. However, the decision didnot smell sweet to supporters of other popular flowers. Some people say, roses are difficult to grow. But you have a good chance of success if youstart with a few suggestions from experts. You should plant your roses where they can get sunshine for about six hours on bright days. You can buy roses from a garden center or by mail order. You can buy potted roses, also knownas container roses, or bare-root plants. Each kind has its fans. Some gardeners say potted roses are easier to plant. They say the roots develop better. Butsome experts point out that bare-root roses come without soil. So they weigh less to transport. A professor from Cambridge University advises getting bare-root roses as close to plantingtime as you can. If they arrive before you are ready to plant them, make sure the packing mate- rial is not dry. Keep the plants in a cool, dark place. When growing roses, the soil should feel wet deep down. Watering should be done in themorning. But do not water too much. Spots are usually caused by too much water. Remember these advices from experts and you will have a better chance of success. Questions 11 to 13 are based on the passage you have just heard. 11. Which place has the most kinds of rose plants? 12. What does the passage say about bare-root plants? 13. What of the following is true according to the passage? Conversation 2 W: What did you do at the office today? M: I had a really busy day. I had to work a little over time. In the morning an important client called to place a large order. I had to check some things with my colleagues before confir- ming the order. W: What kind of things did you need to check? M: The most important thing was to check whether we had the goods in stock. If the goods are in stock, we can deliver them immediately. I also had to-check the price. This customer is very important, so they get special prices. W: I see. Did anything else happen? M: I received a lot of emails from potential clients that I had to answer. Each time, I had to check files to see what we had agreed at earlier meetings. Each client has different.condi tions and requirements. W: It must be difficult to remember the details for each individual client. M: Yes. That's why we have everything on computer files. We don't use much paper at our of- fice. After lunch, I had to deal with a complaint from a client. W: You certainly had a busy day. ……
