前言

　　《英美报刊国际热点导读》是国际关系学院精品课“英美报刊课”的指定教材，适合英语专业本科生、研究生以及英语涉外专业高年级学生使用，也适合有英语基础的国际问题研究者、外事工作者、英语翻译以及英语爱好者自学。此外，本教材还特别适合为参加研究生复试做准备的考研者阅读。　　《英美报刊国际热点导读》取材于英美报刊媒体，经过多年使用和反复修改形成了独特的风格。全书按近年国际重大热点划分为9个教学单元和4个独立研究专题，包括国际政治、军事、当代科技、文化、经济等话题，每个单元的课文均选自英美媒体关于入选专题的特别报道，是了解该专题历史发展的必读文章，每个单元附有用英语编写的简略背景介绍、详尽的注释和讨论题，以加深学生对某一专题的了解。　　英语报刊课具备语言文化教学的多种优点。就单词而言，在今天的信息时代，新的词汇随着信息爆炸而不断出现，其中有些十分有用而又不是过于专业化的词汇，往往最早出现在包括报刊在内的新闻传播媒介上，并由此进入千家万户。英语报刊课正是取材于主要英文报刊。多年教学实践证明，“英语报刊”课不但能使学生获得最新信息、增加国际知识，而且也是提高英语水平、尽快掌握英语最新词汇的最见效的途径之一。　　“英美报刊”课程的教学目的和基本要求是提高学生的阅读和表达能力、自学能力（查阅资料、跟踪热点、分析报告）和思辨能力（独立思考能力、讨论辩论能力）；深入了解英、美等国家的政治、经济、社会、文化特点；熟悉并有能力独立查阅和追踪背景知识和热点问题；熟悉外国有关中国问题的英文报道以及我国政府对外宣传的英文口径和表达法；掌握英语读报技巧，了解英语新闻特点，扩大英语词汇，认知6000-8000个英文单词，熟悉新闻英语的特殊表达法和不同英文报纸的特色；借助工具书能够无障碍地阅读难度相当于美国《时代》（Time）和《新闻周刊》（Newsweek）的英语国家出版的报纸、杂志以及网上信息，并获取所需资料；要求学员在理解的基础上抓住要点，并能运用正确的观点评价材料的思想内容，阅读速度每分钟为100-120个单词，理解正确率达到70％-80％，全年阅读最为3000印刷页。

内容概要

　　《英美报刊国际热点导读》按照国家教委颁布的两个英语教学大纲的要求，结合中国英语教学的特点编写，教材以阅读为主要训练日的，旨在拓宽大学生知识的覆盖面，扩大交流信息量，提高学生的单词量以及分析问题和判断是非的能力。　　课本取材英美报刊，涉及“联合国”、“中东问题”、“波黑战争”、“科索沃问题”、“股票市场”、“海湾战争”、“信息时代”、“核扩散”、“前苏联解体”、“欧洲一体化”等当代大学生应了解的热点话题，适合英语专业高年级学生、研究生以及英语涉外专业学生课堂教学使用，也适合有英语基础的国际问题研究者、外事工作者、英语翻译以及为研究生复试做准备的考研者自学。随书发行光盘的内容包括：①2006-2009年国际新闻PPT；②当代时事热点PFT；③1-9单元课外阅读资料。独立研究专栏包括2008年四个热点话题的相关资料：①四川大地震；②美国总统大选；③同性恋婚姻；④国际金融海啸。
