Management is for motivating employees. 7. Giving praise is a motivating force. 8. and preparation are essential for good performance. 9. People will make but, not the same one twice. 10. Praise and reprimands must be . B Reading Practice? A good maxim for management, at any level, is to ?°Catch people doing something right?±. Far too often employees only come to the attention of their boss when things go wrong. Everyone appreciates having their efforts noticed, and recognised, and especially when it is a spontaneous recognition of a job well done. Giving praise is a powerful motivating force which can be applied, even when things go wrong. It is human nature for people to make mistakes but, the key thing is not to make the same mistake twice. If a team, or an employee, have a logical explanation for their actions and the action turns out to be inappropriate, then it becomes an opportunity for the people involved to learn something new. Good performance is, invariably, associated with planning and preparation while poor performance tends to lack those elements. If management doesn?ˉt plan properly they can hardly expect a well motivated and high performance workforce. Both praise and reprimanding must be done with sincerity and it is important to make the distinction between reprimanding the performance and reprimanding the person. Answer the questions below. 1. What are two key factors in achieving good performance? 2. What motivates employees? 3. Who is ultimately responsible for morale and motivation? C Presentation?演讲练习?– Make a list of ways to improve the performance of a sales team and suggest it to your class. D Role Play? Student A: You are an Office Manager asking a receptionist about a difficult customer. Student B: You are a Receptionist. Example questions: 1. What was the problem with that customer? 2. How do you normally handle difficult customers? E Discussion? 1. Why is planning so important in business? 2. Discuss ways to motivate people.
