　　When she was nineteen months old, an illness left Helen deaf, blind, and mute~ Shecould not hear, nor see, nor speak, so her mother sent for a special teacher. The teacher,young Anne Sullivan, managed to break through to communicate with Helen. ThenHelen learned to associate objects with words, to read raised words on cardboards, andshe slowly got the ability to speak. Indeed, she was able to lip-read by placing her fingerson the throat of the speaker in question. What a clever girl she was！　　She began to write about her life, first in articles for magazines and later in severalbooks. One of them is The Story of My Life.　　Her remarkable achievements in reading, writing and even speaking soon made herinternationally famous.
