前言

　　“高等学校英语应用能力考试”（PracticalEnglishTestforcolleges）是教育部批准实行的一项教学考试，由高等学校英语应用能力考试委员会与各省、市、自治区教学主管部门实施。其考试对象为高等职业学校、普通高等专科学校、成人高等学校，以及本科办职业技术学院的学生。　　“高等学校英语应用能力考试”分为A级和B级。A级为标准级别，覆盖了（《高职高专教育英语课程教学基本要求（试行）》的全部内容。A级考试共分为五大部分：听力理解、词汇用法和语法结构、阅读理解、英译汉和写作。　　为了帮助考生更好地全面了解本考试的试卷构成、考试题目、题型、考试内容及考试的难易度，同时使考生了解自己目前的英语水平，我们编写了这本（（高等学校英语应用能力考试真题汇编（A级）》。　　本书由10套完整的高等学校应用英语能力考试（A级）试卷组成，每套试卷都有参考答案、听力文字材料和评分标准，并附有听力录音。本书的特点是：（1）权威性：本书由高等学校英语应用能力考试委员会组织编写，试卷内容、难易程度、覆盖面和试卷质量严格按照高等学校英语应用能力考试大纲编写。　　（2）科学性：所有试卷中的题目都由高等学校英语应用能力考试委员会特聘的高等学校英语应用能力考试命题人员命题，经考试委员会专家组初审，并在部分省市高校测试，取得数据，在此基础上最后修订成稿。　　（3）实用性：每套试卷单独装订，试卷排版格式与实考试卷完全一致，并附有标准答题纸，可以在模拟的全真考试环境中练习，既便于学生自己使用，也便于课堂教师使用。　　编者在这里必须要指出的是我们编写本书的目的只是为了让考生和教师熟悉了解高等学校英语应用能力考试，提供有针对性的、可靠的参考资料。学生要学好英语，要在“高等学校英语应用能力考试”中取得好成绩，还需平时认真学习，在平时创造条件多使用英语。　　本书由上海交通大学陈永捷教授担任主编。　　由于编者水平有限，本书不足之处希望广大使用者不吝指正。

　　Task 5　　Directions：The following is an introduction．After reading it,you shouM give brief answers to the 5　　questions（No．56 to No．60）thatfollow．The answers（in not more than 3 words）should　　be written after the corresponding numbers on the Answer Sheet． MDC is a brand new distribution center that began operation in Dec．1992 in a convenientlocation only 20km from the city center of Milano．In order to meet customers’requirements，MDCwas built as a multipurpose warehouse（仓库）fitted with an advanced computerized system forinventory control（库存控制）． The platform was installed with a useful dock-leveler for 18 trucks in order to have smooth cargoloading and unloading．MDC provides perfect security with guaranteed 24-hour surveiHance（监视）by security guards，TV monitors and infrared detection systems． In addition to ordinary warehousing operations carried out，MDC can offer precise inventorycontrol with an advanced computerized system-special picking operations to cope with variousquantifies of orders，every sort of packing and goods in and out contr01． MDC has other advanced operations including an EDI facility installed for the purpose of controlof goods in and out，a Location Control System that enables MDC to offer the most effective storageand working space throughout the warehouse，and a Developed Picking System to allow frequentdischarge of goods at low volumes．
